Handling an Injured Pet: When a pet is severely ill or injured, they may display aggressive behavior, even towards those trying to help. To ensure your safety and your pet’s, approach them slowly and calmly, speaking their name softly. If they react aggressively, call for professional assistance. For large dogs who are unable to move, create a makeshift stretcher using a blanket or tarp, ensuring their neck is supported. For cats, gently place a blanket or towel over their head to prevent biting, then carefully lift them into an open-topped carrier or box. If your pet is bleeding, elevate the wound and apply pressure, if possible.
Suspected Poisoning: If you suspect your pet has ingested or been exposed to a toxic substance, call us at 478-742-8766 immediately. If it is outside our regular hours, contact the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center’s 24-hour hotline at (888) 426-4435. Their trained toxicologists will assess your pet’s situation and provide guidance on the appropriate course of action.
At Hudspeth Animal Hospital, your pet’s health and well-being are our top priorities. Trust us to be there for you and your furry family member during life’s most challenging moments.
